Well we didn't get the "perfect" day that I'd hoped for... but December in the Chicago-land area is rarely PERFECT! :) It was cloudy but at least it wasn't the dense fog that we had last time. I could work with this lighting for sure!
The stars definitely aligned for this shoot today though, I must say. Mr. L still wasn't a very deep sleeper, but we were able to get him to sleep a bit faster today. Big sister Miss O, was already familiar with me so was happy to take some photos when baby brother was having his feeding break. She didn't love the idea of holding a squawking baby but did very well regardless... and she was much more lively once mom was holding him during the family photos. :)
I love the neutral color palette of this session... very classic and timeless. Oh, ok, I did have to throw a wee bit of red in, just because it's that time of year!

I was supposed to have a newborn session with this adorable little guy yesterday.... driving there I realized that it was QUITE foggy but I was thinking I could probably make the amount of light work for one little guy. The first little bit went ok thanks to some good sized windows in his nursery. Mr. L needed a little snack before I was going to be able to get him into that super deep sleep stage... unfortunately during his snack break it got even darker and I felt that if I kept going, I just might not be able to deliver the caliber images that I want for my client. So, as much as it pained me because I just love this super tiny stage, I suggested we reschedule ASAP and hope for a little more light from Mother Nature. Here is a small glimpse at the handsome Mr. L and you'll be seeing more next Monday!

This isn't an age that I normally photograph because as all photographers know, it's just a notoriously hard age to capture well. I didn't want to turn this mom away though because when their daughter was born they had a hard time finding a newborn photographer that fit their needs. I'm so glad I gave it a shot because Miss E was beautiful and happy and really made it a breeze. It was so neat to capture the bond between this family of 3... the love between them is obvious in these photos and I hope they cherish them for a lifetime.

Have I ever mentioned that I love my job? Especially when it means I get to snuggle adorable little babies...?? :)

This little man had a bit of a tough time falling asleep but hardly made a fuss about it even though he was most definitely having some pooping issues... Sorry T, I promise that's the last time I'll talk about your poop publicly. ;) I'll only talk about nice things like how you have the BEST creamy skin and the most perfect little features.

It's only day 9 but he seems to have just the sweetest personality... big brother is awfully sweet so it looks like he'll probably follow in his footsteps. I'm looking forward to seeing you grow during your first year and seeing the handsome toddler you will no doubt become!

This bald beauty definitely put Mom and I to work this morning! We had to work for every single smile and poor Mom even got a full upper body workout. :) I have to say that every minute was worth it to capture this beautiful little girl. Going through her images, I was reminded of two things- a baby GAP model with that porcelain skin and beautiful blue eyes... and Brangelina's daughter Shiloh with the fabulous full lips and baby blues. Either way, she's one good lookin' baby.Usually I have a pretty clear idea of the "look" I want a photo to have... but the one below, I loved so much in both color (with a bit of a vintage/texture twist) and b&w that I had to show both.

Imagine my immediate good feeling about the day when I walk in to a little girl wearing a tutu and butterflies in her hair.... HELLO, my dream outfit for a little princess. Heck, I might even wear it if I could find it in my size. ;) Big brother was too handsome for words and it happened to be his FIFTH birthday! I'm sure he could have thought of 100 better things to do than get his photo taken, but we got along fine and I didn't make him work too hard. Gorgeous mom, handsome dad... what more can I say??

I woke up this morning to my two boys in SUPER foul moods.... sometimes I'm sad to leave my boys but today was definitely an exception! My boys foul moods definitely set these two boys up for success- they seriously would have had to burn a forest down for me to think they were being bad. :) Just let that be a reminder to those that are scared of how their kiddos are going to act during a photo session with me... compared to my little hellions, your kids can do no wrong. ;)

On that note, these two definitely gave me a run for my money as is always the case with kiddos their age. Mr. J, the big brother, was such a ham today... he thought he was in a GAP ad with the moves he was pulling. Mr. M was not so much in the mood for my antics today but with a little work, I was able to get some great ones of him as well. Look at those blue eyes and cheeks though- he would have had to light the forest on fire AND throw me in it to get on my bad side. What a doll baby.

Kudos to mom for the wardrobe choices... super well coordinated without being matchy-matchy. Gold star for the day mama!

A lot of the time, I'm lucky enough to be invited back so I get to see them with my own eyes and that is SUCH a rewarding experience. I thought it would be neat to ask my past clients to take a couple photos of their own showing me how they chose to display their photos. We had some GORGEOUS November weather here today! I was thinking back to her first photo session with me back when she was a wee little thing and it was horribly cold and windy that day... luck was definitely on our side a year later. Delicious coffee was present on both occassions... I love coffee drinkers. :)

it's been a while since i had a feisty newborn, i was getting quite smug in my newborn techniques. ;) this little one was wide awake and ready to party!

this was the little guy when i arrived, super alert and aware of his surroundings...

after a while, we were able to get him to sleep for a short time... with the help of mom filling him up and dad taking him for a couple trips around the block! :) seriously, this little one wasn't going down without a fight- all of the shushing and rocking and swaying didn't even phase him.

all in all, i got some great shots of the little peanut... and like i tell my boys ALL the time, "it's a good thing you're so handsome..." and in his case, sweet smelling and mini and perfect... because everyone loves you just the same, even if you scream all day long. :)

11 month old "big brother" tyson was not amused...

ps- i hope little man tired himself out so you guys could enjoy the bears game in peace. :)

all of these perfect newborns are not really helping my husband's argument to not have any more babies. i come home all gooey and happy, gushing about these perfect little beings. i think i'll have to bring him with me to a newborn shoot one time, maybe then i can get him on my side. this little guy was just the sweetest... not one peep (or pee, thanks buddy!) the whole time. i probably could have stayed there all day but i didn't want to push my luck and have him hate me for his 6 month photo shoot... geez, can you imagine how cute he's going to be then with all that great hair???
mama, as usual, looked flippin' awesome and once again i couldn't bring myself to hate her because she's happens to also be nice and fun and all together un-hateable. geez, some people have it all...

i just love my clients that i get to work with on a fairly regular basis. watching their kids grow is so neat and it's an honor to be a part of their lives. i just love these two princesses... they look so alike, yet so different in their coloring. such beautiful little girls! lots of giggles and funny noises today ending with some nudies of a roley poley baby... doesn't get much better than that! :)

it's amazing how having this business has allowed me to meet so many great people and reconnect with people that i used to know AGES ago. ok, so i'm really not THAT old but the mama to this little cutie was like totally my BFF way back in elementary school. not to date myself too much, but there's a great possibility that we even attended a NKOTB concert together... and not during their latest tour.

it was so great seeing you and meeting the men in your life... mr. m certainly didn't disappoint (despite the early awakening, time change, no nap, etc etc)! He is sooooo stinkin' adorable and was a joy to photograph. hope to see you all again soon!

We had a lot standing in our way for this session... moving, weather, illness, you name it! I was thrilled today when the stars finally aligned and we could make it happen! Mom is SO much fun and has lots of style and great ideas. I was thrilled when she told me that we'd be able to borrow Dad's firefighter uniform so little man Mr. D could pretend he's super cool like Dad for a bit. It was nice because I always have tons of dress up stuff for little girlies (it's my weakness) but not much in the way of boy stuff!
Thanks so much Mom and Dad for going with the flow even when it was getting a bit chaotic. I think the whole family deserves some twizzlers! :)

HELLO fall weather, where've ya been all my life??

I was so worried about the weather for today because this Mom was so on top of her stuff contacting me during the summer to set up a fall session. Since we have been having such a yucky fall, it wasn't looking good for any outdoor photos. Luckily, we had a lovely morning and were able to explore a bit outside! I thought the whole fall/farm/barn theme meshes together nicely... and the colors Mom chose for their outfits worked out perfectly.

It was great to finally meet you guys today! Your boys were SO good- they really did earn that treat at the end. :)Of course I couldn't leave without including the family pooch! :) Here's his first official doggie portrait...

i just adore my "baby's first year" clients! i love seeing baby grow, love getting to know the family and of course love the little friends that i make (even if they're only four years old).

today was baby sister's 9 month shoot so we tried to focus on her mostly but we also did some family shots and how could i resist big sister in full dorothy costume?? she makes a PERFECT dorothy and can even sing "somewhere over the rainbow". impressive!

back to baby sister... she's gotten MUCH faster since her last shoot! crawling? nah, not really, scooting and spinning are her preferred methods of travelling! so flippin' adorable to see how proud of herself she is. i had to put together a storyboard to show her tricks....

since we had such a crummy day today we had to get really creative with light (that's fine, i love a good challenge!). conveniently Mom & Dad recently did some remodeling and have a beautiful pushed out window in the living room (somebody help me with the proper term for that?? brain isn't working....) so we hovered there quite a bit today! :)

i'm so glad that i decided to travel out of my typical range to meet this family today. hanging with them was really a fun way to start my day. the weather wasn't PERFECT but much better than the pouring down rain on the original day that we had planned. the kiddos weren't their typical giggly selves but i managed to get a few smiles out of mr. when a family of 3 is becoming a family of 4, the maternity session might be one of the last times for the older sibling to be the only star of the show. i tried to include big sister a lot today and give her lots of attention... and a couple special treats, as well. :) i know mom and dad will be great at finding special time for both of their princessess once baby girl #2 arrives within a couple of weeks.

i had such a nice time with this family today... i joked with mama that i'll be asking her if they need photos all the time because i was treated so well. coffee and baked goods upon my arrival and pizza for lunch?? i didn't want to go home! :) thanks for being such a great hostess... looking forward to meeting miss M soon!i think if you can still see your toes, you're doing alright. :)

according to my 4 year old, miss S is already super hero worthy. i was packing up some of little brothers clothes and he suggested we give his old superman shirt to her. i said, i don't know if a cute baby girl would like to wear a superman shirt? to which he replied, "OH! i know what super hero she can be!! wonder... wonder..."... "wonder woman?", i ask. "YEA!! she should be wonder woman!". so baby girl, i guess you've already been included in our boy world of all things super hero and you can be wonder woman when you come to play at our house. :)

To be honest, when my friend Tammy asked if I would take some photos of her boys while her parents (their Nanny & Grampy) were in town, I was a wee bit nervous. You see, my boys are friends with her boys and I know just how much energy they have. And, in her own words, they HATE getting their picture taken. Well, well, they were in the mood to make me look silly and make mom into a liar because they were FANTASTIC today. They put most of my little clients to shame and were perfectly behaved, smiley and cooperative! YAY boys!! I hope you were treated to a HUGE stack of pancakes and bacon and enjoy the rest of your visit with your delightful grandparents.

... you just have to do a little happy dance. :) i really would have had to work hard to mess this one up. the real kicker is that as smokin' hot as she is, she's equally as nice and sweet so i couldn't hate her for very long.

I was also able to include dad (haha), doggie stella and their adorable niece!

miss S is very used to hearing my camera clicking away, she's been hearing it for 9 months already... so it's old news to her. she just slept like a little angel and let me do my thing. hopefully this is the way it continues since i have a sneaky suspicion i'll be taking a lot of photos of her over her lifetime. i had such a lovely day with this wee one... she is so calm and peaceful, it would be hard not to feel the same in her presence.

these little beauties were the first newborn twins that i had the opportunity to photograph so i was thrilled to hear from their mommy to do their 6 month photos. it's so neat to be able to follow little ones as they grow and change... i'm already looking forward to doing their one year birthday shoot- i can't even imagine how big and adorable they'll be then!

the soon to be parents are both soccer players, so we had to incorporate a bit of a soccer theme into their maternity session. is it totally inappropriate that when i was looking at these photos i kept thinking, "he shoots... he scores!!"... ummm... yes, sorry, moving on...

the mommy to be is a good friend of mine and i'm just thrilled to bits to see her so happy and excited about starting their family. she is going to be an incredible mom and i can't wait to meet her little princess!

this little man was determined to stay awake during my whole session with him... in the end, we won out but it wasn't easy, let me tell you! he just didn't want to miss anything or fall deep enough asleep where i could put a silly hat on him... he won that one, no time for silly hats today! :) all in all, i was able to get some great shots and even some "before and after" type shots that i love to do. enjoy the sneak peek, mom and dad... i hope i wore H out and he'll sleep for you tonight!

I had a mini session with Miss E today to do her 18 month photos and get to know her and mommy a bit before baby brother arrives within the month. She is the most adorable little thing who will repeat just about anything you say from "awesome" to "absolutely". :) Mom and dad must be on their best behavior these days around this little parrot! She was one busy munchkin but made my day by giving me a big hug about 1/2 way through our session- so sweet! Great meeting you two today and I can't wait to meet baby boy in Sept!

i just love it when miss m comes over to play... i get to get my girly fix and leave the land of super heroes and spiders and mud (which happen to be my boys' favorites at the moment). she didn't stick her tongue out at me this time but did manage some pretty funny faces, my favorite below...

she had lots of new tricks today... clapping, waving, crawling... she's getting awfully fast so i better get in shape for her one year session!! here are a few favorites...

It was such a pleasure to have the opportunity to spend the morning with this lovely duo. These little ones were 4 weeks early so they were teensy-tiny. They were just about 9 pounds COMBINED. I just loved them so much, I wanted to bring them home in my pocket! They were so, so good to me and barely made a peep. They were especially content when they were snuggled next to each other. The bond between twins is so neat, and it was wonderful to be able to capture a little bit of that today. Thanks mom and dad for inviting me into your home and sharing your peanuts with me for a little while.

I had the pleasure of spending a bit of time with this beautiful family today. It's always amazing and inspiring to see a couple that has been married over 50 years still holding hands, still caring for one another, still laughing at each other's jokes. It really makes the day to day squabbles seem so silly and insignificant when you look at the grand picture of spending a lifetime with someone. I hope these two have many, many more years together tending their gardens and enjoying their wonderful family.

well this little miss decided NOT to take her morning nap, as per mommy's plan to have a happy baby for photos. i sometimes think little ones can sense when we're desperate for them to do something and then they do everything in their power NOT to do it our way. :) so, we knew we we were going to have limited time before happy baby turned into a tired and grumpy baby so today's shoot had to move a little more quickly than normal. she actually did REALLY well and was giving me some winning smiles... thanks mostly to mommy's rendition of "bah, bah black sheep" (wait, was that the one??). :) thanks for all of your help, mom, dad and big sister... i can't wait to see you all again in october!

... and even though it was little sisters day to be in the spotlight, what kind of big sister would she be if she didn't try to steal the show?? ....

In the short amount of time taken for Lindsay to capture these phenomenal photos, I cannot express just how wonderful of an experience she was able to provide our little family. Though the consummate professional that she is, there was nothing "stuffy", uptight or business-like about the process but rather laid back, relaxed and comfortable. Then, when I saw the photos, I was completely blown away; they were absolutely beautiful and through them, she was able to convey the beauty of my first child just as I had hoped she would.

These kids are so lucky, they get to live next door to their cousins! How much fun would that be?!?! A morning with 4 kids under the age of 4 was a bit challenging at times but with the help of the moms and Auntie Stacie, I think we managed to pull off some great shots. Maybe in a couple years they will be more easily bribed into participating.... but wait, then there might be even MORE cousins to include! YIKES. ;)

We are so thrilled that Lindsay was referred to us! After returning home from the hospital with our brand new baby girl, the last thing we wanted to do was bring her to one of those run of the mill baby photographers at the mall. She came to our home just nine days after the birth of our little one for a newborn photoshoot. I have to be honest, I was a bit nervous having someone I've never met handle our brand new baby. After only a few short moments of meeting Lindsay, I was completely at ease. She was absolutely amazing! You can tell that she is a mom whose got it together as well as an outstanding photographer! Although our baby slept through most of the shoot, Lindsay was able to manipulate her into various positions to capture the most precious photos without disturbing her peacefulness! Our experience with Lindsay was wonderful, and we will cherish the beautiful photos of our daughter forever!

gosh, i just love maternity sessions... subjects that actually listen to direction (unlike a toddler), they hold still and smile on cue?? it's like a vacation. thanks for hanging with me for a little while today... i can't wait to hear what you ended up having. i'm leaning towards boy but we all know how good my guessing record is. ;)

Two year old boys are tricky little creatures. You sort of have to just dive in front of them, press the shutter and hope for the best! This little guy was no exception. I think we managed to pull it off though, thanks in HUGE part to his very patient and loving parents. Thanks for playing with me this morning, I look forward to meeting your new peanut in December...my official guess is boy. :) Hope you guys all had a good nap after I left.

I had the pleasure of taking a few more photos of Miss R (now 11 days old) with her family today. She could sniff me out this time and wouldn't play along quite as easily as the last time (what a difference a couple of days make- this is why I bug people to do their newborn sessions as early as possible)... but we got some wonderful shots of those beautiful blue eyes and even caught a huge grin, so I'll call it a success.

It really is something to smile about, isn't it?

Having Lindsay take photos of my newborn was a welcome break for the new mommy! She is so good with babies I never gave it a second thought to let her care for "A" while doing the photo shoot. I got a much-needed nap on the couch! She is confident, yet gentle, decisive and goal-oriented, yet flexible and understanding. A complete pleasure to work with.

well, little miss red-head decided not to nap today so we weren't quite sure how the session was going to go. there were a few meltdowns, see exhibit A...luckily grandma had the touch and could cure the tears quite easily, see exhibit B...

overall though, i think we managed to get some great shots and had some fun doing it! thanks for letting me come over to play in girl land today! i hope you love your sneak peek. :)

and one of big sister, even though she wasn't SUPPOSED to get in front of the camera- who could say no to this beauty? i sure couldn't. geez, mom and dad are going to have their hands full with these two when they're teenagers.

i don't have a sister so the way sisters interact is very new and interesting to me. they nitpick each other over little goofy things but have this amazing bond that is like no other. i had such a great time with these sisters today and i can't wait to meet their little ones. the soon to be cousins will be best of friends, i'm just sure of it.

Having family portraits taken has been so stressful in the past.  Our experience with Lindsay was actually very enjoyable.  A two hour session went by in a flash, and the kids were no worse for the wear.  We didn't feel pressured to pose a certain way or to get a "better" shot.  Lindsay has such a gentle way about her.  It was just a nice day with someone who seemed like an old friend, and the pictures speak for themselves!
